[KDevelop feedback] AppImage broken on Linux: "Cannot open /tmp/.mount_3lpt4n/.DirIcon"

I'm running mainly Kubuntu 16.04.2 LTS but also failed on Slackware 14.2.
As I was collecting data for this response, I figured it out the problem

the download looks incomplete! The "cannot open .DirIcon" error appears to
be indicative of a corrupted download.
